Glass slides from Bryndís Snæbjörnsdóttir & Mark Wilson, Nanoq: Flat Out and Bluesome, 2001-2006.

Snæbjörnsdóttir and Wilson found these images at Somerleyton Hall during their research on the cultural history of polar bears in the UK. The two “matching” stuffed bears below were photographed at Somerleyton.  Based on the slides and other research, they think one of the bears was shot and killed in the arctic (near Spitzbergen) by Saville Crossley, 1st Baron Somerleyton. The other may be what remains of the bear that was captured live and kept on the expedition ship in the images above.
